In collaboration with University of New South Wales (UNSW) Business School, the E-ledgers Institute convened an invite-only workshop bringing together a small group of senior leaders from policy, industry, academia, and civil society. Our co-founder, Karthik Ramanna, presented on how the integrity of underlying emissions accounting shapes the effectiveness of carbon markets and climate policy, with a focus on Australia’s role, the potential for leadership in this space, and the application of ledger-based approaches in the lead-up to COP31.
Following the workshop, Karthik sat down with Professor Paul Andon (Dean of the UNSW Business School) to examine why the current carbon reporting system is structurally broken, why organizations most invested in climate progress are often most resistant to measurement reform, and what it would take to build the accounting foundations that carbon markets require.
