E-ledgers Institute Welcomes the Carbon Measures-International Chamber of Commerce Expert Panel on Carbon Accounting

The E-ledgers Institute welcomes the recent establishment of the Expert Panel on Carbon Accounting, co-hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Carbon Measures, and endorsed by Sustainable Business COP. We expect the work of the Expert Panel will build on the robust conceptual foundations of ledger-based carbon accounting developed by our founders, Professors Robert Kaplan and Karthik Ramanna.
In light of these promising developments, we want to clarify the ongoing role and work of the E-ledgers Institute.
- The E-ledgers Institute is and remains an independent not-for-profit learning organization, funded by philanthropy, with no formal association with Carbon Measures, the ICC, or Sustainable Business COP.
- Co-founder and Principal Investigator, Professor Karthik Ramanna, will serve as co-chair of the ICC/Carbon Measures Expert Panel. As with all members of the Expert Panel, he serves in this role in a personal capacity, not as a representative of any other organization with which he is affiliated. Also, as announced by the ICC and Carbon Measures, the Expert Panel will work independently of any of its supporting organizations.
- The mission of the E-ledgers Institute remains the same: develop scholarship on E-ledgers carbon accounting, educate decision makers, build communities of practice, and help scale the approach for global implementation.
- In the near term, we will advance the E-ledgers accounting framework and the E-liability proto-standard, and issue a first draft of an E-asset proto-standard. We will continue to work, on a pro-bono basis, on pilot studies with pioneering organizations in business, government, and civil society. We encourage first movers to reach out to us for such collaborations.
